"I wasn't trying to be scary," he said, grinning lightly. "Just comes naturally, I guess." He really didn't think of himself as 'scary'. He could have been far more worse. But others just seemed to back away from him. He didn't know why and frankly, he didn't really care. The less he was annoyed the better. He wasn't very social, but when he was with someone right... things were different. Like right now. "Good," he said as he shook himself from his thoughts. "That's one thing we have in common."

"Well I bet we'll find many more things we have in common." She said with a nod. Like we've both been heart broken before... She thought. Him with Kali. And her with him. But she wasn't about to admit that to him. Not now. Not now that they could be good friends. And if that was all they'd ever be then she'd just be secretly sad her whole life. And that's what she was covienced would happen.

Kaige nodded in agreement. He could think of a few things, one being they had pups together. He was silent for a long time as he went over his thoughts. Things seemed to be happening quite fast before him. One moment, he's hurt beyond belief and the next, he's over it. Of course, he wasn't really sure he was really over it. It probably had something to do with Velia. She had been a big help so far. If she hadn't of run into him, he'd probably would have been dead by now one way or another. But he realized then he didn't want to be dead. He didn't want to be away from Velia. She was good company, and not just because she had made him feel better. He had always enjoyed her company. He could still remember back when they were together. Things were perfect then. Things were almost perfect but, but he wouldn't kid himself. There was no such thing as perfection.
He wasn't sure what was going on or what was going to happen now. He really couldn't see into his own future. The only time he could was when the visions came and they showed no signs of appearing. It was a good thing, really. The last few visions he had had weren't the best. He really didn't want to see anymore, but he knew he would eventually. Even if it took them years to come back, they would. Good or bad. A moment later, he shook himself from his thoughts, coming back into reality. His gaze was planted on Velia and there was something in his eyes, but it wasn't easily recognized. What he said next was both unexpected and expected at the same time. "I like you Velia, I won't deny it." He was well aware of what he was doing and what could possibly happen, but he wasn't going to keep anything locked up and away from the world.
"But..." There was always a 'but' when it came to things like this. Well, in this situation, anyway. Nothing ever really went the way someone wanted or planned it to. There was always something stopping it from being right. "But, with everything just happening and piling up on my shoulders..." He was sure she knew what he meant. She was smarter than most, after all. "I'm not really sure where to go with things right now, you know?" he said, hoping that she wouldn't take this the wrong way and just up and leave again. "It's just kind of troublesome." And it was. After all, he had just seen the one wolf he had given his entire heart to, the one wolf he swore he would only love, with another male. And now, here he was with Velia and he felt comfortable with her. He wasn't around her looking for comfort, though. He wasn't like that. He just honestly enjoyed her company, which made his mind begin to wander.
He began to wonder what it would have been like if she had never left. They would probably still be together with more pups and a fairly decent life. He never would have met Shinrin or Kali and he never would have had to of gone through everything he had with them. Things would have been just fine. Of course, there would be misfortune, but that was to be expected. He wouldn't have had to deal with heartache, though. He and Velia had been a perfect pair in his eyes. Well, not perfect, but well matched and suitable. They had been inseperable until she left. Why not just pick up all the pieces and start all over again? He shook his head, clearing his thoughts, never once taking his gaze off of her. "I just need to figure things out, I guess."

Velia's words got chocked back in her mouth. She completely understood... and yet it was still shocking to her to hear that he liked her. "Kaige I never stopped liking you... but I completely understand that. I listen to things." She said with a nod. And then smiled. "Since I'm so small I've gotta make up for it somehow." She added lightly. She wanted to keep the mood from somehow ending up akward. But she was really happy to hear that he liked her.

"That's good," he said, nodding slightly. "About you listening to others, I mean. You should have stopped liking me a long time ago. You did leave me, after all." He paused and realized that was the wrong thing to say. He instantly regretted it. "I shouldn't have said that," he said quickly. "I know it wasn't your fault and I was wrong to say that. I didn't mean to, but sometimes my words get mixed up..." He stopped and dropped his gaze to the ground. He hoped things wouldn't get worse because of him and his stupidity. "I don't want you to get your hopes up, though," he said in an attempt to change the subject. "But I just wanted you to know... I'm not one to hide things, really."

"I know what you meant. And you should know - of all people - that I'm not one to get my hopes up." She said with a nod and a faint smile. Despite herself, she couldn't help but get her hopes up slightly. Velia told herself no. She had lost most of her hope a loooooong time ago. She wasn't like that.

"Yeah, well..." he hesitated slightly and shrugged. "Some people change. Like me, for instance. I've gone through three transformations so far, and that's changed who I am and what not. I'll probably go through a lot more since I'm stuck around here for eternity." It kind of downed him when he thought of that. If he loved someone and was with them, it wouldn't last because the other wolf would die unless they were immortal. He hardly ever came across any immortal wolves like himself. Most of them were either normal or they had an extended life. It was depressing. "It kind of sucks," he said a minute later as a look of sadness crossed through his expression. "I'll love someone and then they're gone while I'm stuck here."

"That really must suck. It's like... for you to be happy for the rest of forever you'd have to meet another immortal wolf to fall in love with." She frowned. It was true, Kaige could never have a perfect life. And neither could Velia. Yet another way the two were alike.

"It does," he said, seeming thoroughly depressed now. "Sometimes you forget about it and then everything seems perfect until it hits you." He frowned slightly and shook his head. "I should probably just steer clear of the love area, huh? It'd be a lot easier that way. No more heartache or anything." His frowned deepened and turned to a scowl. He was starting to sound pathetic and he didn't want that. He wasn't going to turn into some sap that was upset with everything. He wouldn't turn out to be like.. Shinrin.

"Yeah..." Velia said with a frown. If he did... then she did too. For some reason - even when she tried - it was impossible for her to love... or like... anyone else out there. She had tried a few times before... but it was impossible. Her frown deepened. There was hardly a chance he'd fall back in love let alone with her. She wanted to stay strong though. And so she had her expression and voice return to normal. "Anyways..." She said, hoping to switch it to a lighter subject.

"No worries," he said with a casual shrug. Normally, he wasn't so open but Velia was one of the few wolves he trusted, whether he admitted it or not. He was sure she wouldn't go running off to tell someone else about all his troubles and worries. "Huh," he said after awhile, remembering something. "I just realized something." His voice was low and hard to hear as the memories flashed before his eyes. He didn't want to remember it, but something clicked and brought it back. "It was around this time that Thanatos and his pack came and basically slaughtered most of my family and the pack members." His voice was distant and so was his gaze, but he quickly snapped out of it and looked back to Velia. "Well, anyway... thanks," he said, honestly meaning it.

Velia was slightly suprised by the very oh-so-wonderful and incredibly cheerful memory Kaige had just had. It really wasn't the best and she wasn't sure where it came from... but that was okay... she guessed. "Oh my... that's not good..." She said, honeslty not sure what else there was to say at that point. She didn't know what she could have to talk about... so she racked her brain for something of interest. Then she remembered her pups... the pups! What had happened to them, anyways? They had sort of just left after meeting their real father. But she didn't want to bring that up. "Yeah, anyways..."

"Hmm." Something occured to him then and it was something important. It was as if there was a light above his head that had suddenly turned on, flashing brightly. He wasn't going to bring up what it was, though. He had to figure it out completely, first. And then, well, then things would be arranged. Things would be said. Things would be done. And if it all went together correctly, he didn't have anything to worry about. He was feeling quite confident by then and it felt like a huge weight had been lifted from his broad shoulders. A smile flashed across his maw, but it wasn't meant for Velia. Or himself, really. He shook his head and chuckled softly to himself as if it should have been obvious all along. He turned his attention back on Velia and spoke. "I'm sure things will be sorted out sooner or later."

What? Velia asked herself... very confused. But Kaige could be confusing. She was smart... sometimes even brilliant... but Kaige was just... Kaige. And he could confuse her sometimes. Sometimes I'd like to know what's going through his head... She thought, keeping her face the same - non the less. "What things?" She asked.

"You're not the first to wonder that," he said with an amused grin, having read her thoughts. "Yes, what does go on in the mind of Kaige?" His grin widened and his brow arched. There was always someone wondering that, but he could never figure out why. He didn't see himself as intriguing. Perhaps it was because of what he said half the time. He wasn't really 'normal' like other wolves, but then again, who was to say who was normal? In all honesty, though, he wasn't even sure what was going on in his mind some of the time. He was constantly thinking about one thing or another and this usually caused a mild cluttering of thoughts that jumbled together and made no sense at all.
"Oh, sorry about that," he said, apologizing for reading her thoughts. "I normally don't do such things, but once in awhile... well, I can't help it." His grin turned sheepish and he half shrugged. "As for 'things', you'll just have to wait and find out," he said, taking on a mysterious tone. "And don't even try and beg me to tell you. It won't work," he added quickly as an afterthought. This would be kept to himself until the time was right. If there was such a thing as the 'right' time.

Velia cocked an eyebrow. "Great... so now I'll no I'm never actually safe from you. Not even in my own mind." She said with a fake annoyed face, rolling her violet eyes sarcastically. Then the grin returned. "But okay... I'll wait. Knowing I'll probably get no where trying to argue and it would annoy the hell out of me as I'm sure it would you." She said with a wry smile. Velia could be lots of fun... espically if you were really asking to be annoyed or were just one of her good friends. Like she thought Kaige was.

"It was a one time thing, I promise," he said with a light laugh. True, sometimes he could prevent himself from going into thoughts belonging to someone else, but every now and then he couldn't help it. And sometimes, he heard their thoughts whether he wanted to or not. His power was strange and complicated. He wasn't even sure what he was capable of with it. He still had a lot to figure out. "And you're right," he said after awhile, grinning widely. "You would get nowhere arguing with me. And it would be annoying. So annoying, in fact, I would probably..." His sentenced died as he tried to come up with something he would do. Of course, he really wouldn't do anything to her unless she did something to really piss him off, but even then he wasn't sure if he would be able to do such a thing.
"I would probably do nothing because my mind as seemed to of failed on me," he said with an exaggerated sigh. He shook his head and closed his eyes. "And when my mind fails me, bad things happen." He opened one eye to glance at her sideways, suppressing a grin. He wondered if she would actually believe his whole act. Probably not. She was was smarter than that.

"Really? Bad things?" Velia asked in a heavily sarcastic voice with a light grin. "Well I wouldn't doubt it knowing you, Kaige. You're a very scary wolf. I'm very terrified." She added, knowing he'd understand the sarcasm. "But you know... when Velia's mind fails her the world just might end. Because I'm just that amazing... and... stuff." She said the last part thinking she'd be able to think of something else to say after she said she was 'amazing' but couldn't think of anything else so 'and stuff' came out... wow she could really make herself sound stupid.

His eyes opened and he cocked a brow, staring at her as if she had gone mad. "I'm sorry? You? Amazing? Right... and I'm the single ruler of this world," he said, laughter clearly evident in his voice. "If you are so amazing, then why would the world end if your mind failed?" he asked, a questioning, yet amused look coming across his face. "Obviously, you are not that amazing then." He nodded as if he were confirming this, but a grin was sliding across his maw once more. It was an odd thing, really. He always seemed to be grinning around her now. He could remember before when he didn't even want to talk to her, let alone look at her. But things were different now. He was different, and in more ways than one.
"Oh, and yes. Bad things would happen," he said, going back to what she had first said. "Extremely bad things. Terribly bad things. Horribly bad things." He nodded briskly, carrying a fake serious expression. "The world would be doomed if those things ever came about." He was a terrible actor and a terrible liar, but it was nice not being so uptight and serious for once. He was enjoying himself.

"Oh yes I'm so very amazing that if my mind somehow managed to fail then everyone would be lost and completely confused. Doomed to a life of misery and confusion." She said with a fake serious nod. Why she was being so completely fun and open was something different to her. Yes, she was always sarcastic but not like this.
"And horribly bad things? Terribly, horribly, extremely bad things?" She asked, cocking a brow. "What kind of things?" She asked, curiousally and yet amuesedly.
