It wasn't normal, this darkness that covered the normally blue-gray sky. There was no light from the sun nor the moon no matter what time of day it was. The darkness was impenetrable; there was no way to get around it. It was like that with the cold, too. It was harsh and bitter, nipping at whatever it could whenever it could. It, like the darkness, showed no signs of leaving anytime soon. It was there to stay for as long as it pleased.
It wasn't such a bother to one wolf that was making his way down the side of the river, watching his surroundings warily. He wasn't overly large for a male; he was about average. His build wasn't very muscular; he was somewhat thin but it wasn't unhealthy. His fur, which was rather thick for a wolf, appeared to look normal from a distance. When up close, though, you could see the different shades of brown growing darker as they rose up. His fur also seemed to be moving, twisting and turning in different directions as if it were alive. His eyes were as black as the night sky and seemed almost hypnotizing if you stared into them long enough.
The wolf, who was dubbed Torrent, continued his slow trek alongside the nearly frozen river. His black eyes were focused on something unseen and his ears were perked forward as if he were listening to something. Whatever it was, though, it wasn't visible to any other wolf. Or perhaps he was just imagining things. Maybe the cold weather and darkness was making him delusional. There didn't appear to be anything, or anyone, in the area. There were scents that were unfamiliar to him, but there was no one to be seen. A faint shiver ran down his spine as an unexplainable bad feeling suddenly overcame him. There was something obviously wrong in this land, but whatever it was, he couldn't put his paw on it.

A small white wolfess made her way along the freezing, dark side of the river. This wasn't normal. She shivered as her violet eyes searched for something in the darkness. Such softness they contained... yet there was something in them... something. It was unexplainable. Whatever these eyes held that wasn't kindness was in there. And yet it wasn't bloodthirsty. Just... a bit scary. It would make one think twice about attacking this female, and yet this was only a small portion of the warm violet eyes. Her pelt was also very... friendly looking... if there was a way to put it. Yet there was a part of her... maybe in the way she walked... that made her look slightly leathel... but that was impossible. Velia wasn't one to hurt another... at least she didn't want to be.

There was another scent in the air, this one being closer than all the rest. The oddly colored male stopped in his steps and raised his nose slightly to take it in. His black eyes narrowed slightly, not sure if this wolf was a friend or a foe. Well, they hadn't attacked him; it was a good sign, at least. He craned his neck slightly as his black gaze swept over the area, finally spotting out the other wolf. A female, by the looks of it. A thoughtful frown crossed his maw as he studied her incospicuously. There was something different about her, but what it was he couldn't tell.
Deciding it would be best to introduce himself and get on with it, he took a few cautious steps forward and cleared his throat. "Hello," he said, his voice deep yet quiet. He didn't say anything after that, nor did he make any attempt to move closer just in case she did turn out to be hostile.

Velia stopped as soon as she smelled another wolf in the air... she looked around, her purpleish gaze landing upon a male a few yards away from her. He didn't seem to want to attack, but none the less, she kept her distance. "Hello." Velia said in her soft and friendly yet somehow intense at teh same time. There was an odd combination about Velia.

His frown deepened as he shifted his weight, dropping his gaze to the ground. He felt somewhat awkward, but wasn't sure why. Perhaps it was because this was his first encounter with another wolf in such a long time. His gaze drifted back up somewhat and he made an attempt to smile. "My name is Torrent.. I'm kind of new to this area," he said with the faint trace of a grin. He then looked up to the sky, wondering why it was so dark when it wasn't even that late. And the cold, well, that didn't bother him much. He was warm enough as it was. He could sense that there was something different, something wrong with the land. It didn't fit together, but he wasn't about to try and figure it all out at that moment.

Velia frowned. "I think you came at a rather bad time... seeing as I have no idea what's going on with the place." She said, knowing he'd know what she'd meant. If one were really that stupid, and didn't know what she was talking about, that would be sad. But Velia was meaning the suddenly blackened skies and the colder than normal weather. She didn't understand this... none of it was normal. She was going to find out what was wrong and she was going to find out soon. Velia was quite the determined one. "Oh, and I'm Velia." She added with a light smile.

"There's never really a right time for anything," he said after a moment of silence, though he seemed somewhat distracted. He squinted at the clouds that loomed above and muttered something to himself. Shaking himself from his thoughts, he looked back to Velia and smiled faintly. "Pleased to meet you. Are you a member of this pack?" he asked, taking a seat beside the river.

"I'm not, actually. I can't seem to find an alpha anywhere to join." She said with a frown. "I'd like to join, though. That's the only reason I've stuck around. 'Else I'd have been gone a very long time ago." She said, meaning the very time she saw Kaige. She'd have been gone. She couldn't face him. She couldn't even tell him the truth... or herself, for that matter. And now he was dead. Gone. For some reason she couldn't accept that fact. But she seemed to love this land... there was so much more she wanted to learn about them... for some reason she found herseld drawn to them.

"Ah," he said quietly, not really sure what he was supposed to say to that. His gaze dropped to the ground and a frown twisted its way across his maw, replacing the smile that was there just a moment ago. A sudden gust of wind blew through then, startling Torrent. He cursed under his breath and scowled at the ground, mumbling things that were in another language. Realizing he must look like an idiot, he looked back to Velia, expressionless. "Would you happen to know why it's like this?" he asked, nodding up to the sky. "Or is it supposed to be like this?"

"I really have no idea." Velia admitted with a frown. "All I know is that it's something evil and that it just happened in a matter of mere seconds." She said, a confused expression crossing her maw. These weren't expressions you'd normally have with Velia... because she was usually vibrant and happy. For some reason it was so different now. It was unexplainable.

"Hmm..," he murmured quietly to himself, fairly confused himself. He hoped it wasn't something terribly bad, but evil was never good. "Maybe I did come at a bad time...," he said, half joking, half serious. OOC:} Ugh. Writer's block.

Velia smiled, she knew what he meant. "I told you, now definatly wasn't the best time to come here. You see, normally the place is mostly beautiful... I mean this river isn't the cleanest but it definatly is nice. Along with everything else. It's all pretty great. When it's normal." She really did like it here. Espically up on the mountain top where it was snowy and white. She could hide there... she also liked the Leiko Forest, mainly because it was dark and she could hide there when she was "dreaming." Or that's what she told herself, anyways.

He frowned in thought, glancing over to the river. He didn't have a bad feeling or anything like that. Was he supposed to? Maybe it was just because he was new. He looked back to Velia and smiled. "I'll take your word for it, then." He was sure it was quite a site when it wasn't covered in darkness. He could see most of it, but the darkness hid its beauty. He shook himself from his thoughts and turned his attention back to her. "So, what's there to do around here?" he asked, slightly curious.
