Part 1
“The world wasn’t always such a hateful place, my loves. Follow your hearts and you all will do wonders” - Moonlight
Chapter One
The Prophecy
The weather was warm; the spare snow that covered the ground like a blanket was beginning to melt away. The birds sprang from their nest and flung into the sky, circling around singing joyfully. Yet, it seemed as if only the birds and other small creatures were celebrating the first day of spring. For some creatures, there was no happiness of today; instead it brought despair to their hearts. Today was the day that marked the hundred anniversary to when it all began, the day that tore their lives apart, a day that turned a beautiful and peaceful land into a land that now plunged into darkness and hatred, only surviving by a thin thread, threatening to break any day. These mighty dragons who rule upon this land, rested upon their caves, despising the cold bitter soon, knowing exactly what today would bring – more heartbreaks. It felt as if there was never a day when there wasn’t fighting. Fighting was painful enough, but brothers fighting against brother, mother against father, it was a pitiful sight indeed. The sun rose up into the sky, reaching out with a blinding light to another day. The dragon’s stirred in their sleep, snapping their eyes shut, wishing and pleading for the sun to disappear into the sky, but when they reopened them, the sun was still there – laughing at them. Laughing at their pain and suffering.
Silence, it could drive one mad; the eeriness that it brings causes a shiver to run down one’s spine. Forgotten memories and thoughts come back like a knife through the chest. No sounds can be heard, not even the sound of one’s heart pounding in their chest –even the birds chirping became silent- their eyes filled with apprehension waiting for something to happen….because of silence. One knows that silence always means trouble, and it comes in unimaginable ways. Ways that are gruesome and atrocious. Silence is basically forewarning your death or sanity. However some are too oblivious to take the warnings. Yet, just as the silence started, it was broken by a mighty roar. A bellow that caused all the dragons to snap back into reality and take flight into the air, making their way toward the one that had called to them.
The ground was slightly wet from the morning dew, yet the damp ground was the last thing on the Dragon’s mind as they all gathered around a small rocky hill that rose a good distance in the sky, only the smaller ones had to stretch out their necks to see the dragons that rested upon the hill. Dragons of different sizes and different colors came together, their eyes glued upon the rock, not even daring whispering a single word. Soon a pure white scaled dragon took a few steps forward. She held her head with pride, her dull scales shimmering in the sunlight. Right when she stepped up the other dragons around her lowered their heads, making it quite obvious that this female was of great importance. She was long, but her length was mostly because of her slender tail and neck which were twice as long as her body. The marks of the war were visible, not just upon her scales, but by the weariness and tiredness of her pale blue eyes.
“Southern Dragons, I bring both good news and bad.” Her voice flowed easily over the crowd as the dragons began to lift their heads once more back to the female. Her voice was strong, caring promises of a better future. “The Prophecy has once begun shone upon his. For in a few weeks my clutch will hatch. This brings more danger to us all, for Thunder will stop at nothing to make sure the Prophecy will fail, I know we are all weary of battle, but I promise that one day the war shall end, even if it won’t be in my lifetime. My children and your children will have a better future.” [/size][/blockquote]
